The Latest on Dad

Many of you have asked about Dad. Here is the latest email from Greg and Kathy (My brother and his wife) we received yesterday:

Thanks so very much for your prayers, cards and telephone calls. They have meant so very much to Dad Leary. Greg and I attended a Care Plan meeting this morning. Dad Leary is looking for discharge to his home in Elkins on Thursday, April 17th. We are so very happy considering, he should not be here. He will be discharged with Home Health services. He is walking stronger every day with his walker. He tires out after about 30 feet but is improving. He walks with his walker and standby assist up to 130 feet. So...an excellent show of strength. He is able to stand up out of his recliner chair without assist and grab his walker. Impressive. However, he is extremely weak. He attended an upper body strengthening class this morning. He did very well. However, he was rather tired after the 45 mins of exercise. He has lost 20 lbs since his hospitalization. He is very, very thin. The dietary dept has started to beef him up with liquid nourishment supplements to help put some meat on those ribs. He does eat very well, just not enough to stick to the ribs. His blood sugar is still erratic but he tolerates it very well. (This in common with a heart attack in diabetic patients)Dad Leary was a little disappointed that he couldn't go home today but he understands that he must get stronger. He also understands there will be a driving restriction for several weeks! We are just so thankful for all of your prayers. He has come a long way since his heart attack. I will continue to keep you posted regarding his status. Thank you again, Love, Kathy and Greg
